FORT KENT, Maine The University of Maine at Fort Kent is pleased to welcome Dr. Kaisa Holloway Cripps as an assistant professor of business, who started on Jan. 1. Dr. Holloway Cripps earned her doctor of management from the University of Maryland University College in 2016 and she will complete her graduate certificate in Native American Studies from Montana State University Bozeman later this year. She earned her bachelors of arts in humanities and social science from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in 2006 and she earned her MBA from the UMass Dartmouth Charlton College of Business in 2010.

Art Beat focuses on Southcoast artist Roger Kizik

Don Wilkinson South Dartmouth painter Roger Kizik doesn’t color within the lines. And probably never did. Seventy-five years ago, he was born in Boston and raised in nearby West Medford. His mother was a learned and devoted opera fan. His father managed a sausage factory, all the while enjoying a parallel career as a gifted saxophonist in a dance and polka band dubbed The Modernistics. Kizik acknowledged that the poles of “ethnic” and classical musical disciplines were an everyday fact and that those sounds still resonate deep within. But the music gene eluded him. Childhood visits to the Museum of Fine Arts and the newly opened Decordova Museum offered an array of possibilities as to what art might actually be, well beyond comic books and the illustrations on the Saturday Evening Post. For him, museums garnered a kind of social and cultural fascination.

(WBRC) - After offering the COVID-19 vaccine to all long term care residents and employees, Fair Haven nursing home in Birmingham vaccinated more than 300 people. “It has definitely been difficult for everyone here, but we have all adapted and are working to do the best we can for each other,” said Savannah Pritchett. Pritchett is an employee at Fair Haven Nursing Home in Birmingham who with residents daily to make sure their nutrition needs are met.

Yellow Springs artist hosts retrospective on watercolors By London Bishop - lbishop@aimmediamidwest.com YELLOW SPRINGS Sue Brezine, a watercolorist and member of the Village Artisans in Yellow Springs, will present a retrospective of her work in watercolors and pastels. Brezine’s Lobby Show will be on display from Jan. 8 through March 4 at the Village Artisans Gallery, located at 100 Corry St., Yellow Springs. Brezine, a Dayton native, studied at the Dayton Art Institute as a child. She studied under American artist and author Betty Edwards at California State University, Long Beach. Edwards is most famous for authoring “Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain,” the techniques of which Brezine took with her in her own teaching career. Brezine has taught at Riverbend Art Center, Dayton, Kettering Adult School, and other venues. She has presented her workshop, “Sketching Your Spirit,” to countless religious and professional organizations during her career.
